Welcome to my garden design blog!
I started writing this blog when we started redesigning our garden, and I couldn’t find one place that capture everything from start to end. Since we did it all by ourselves, I needed a reliable source, that will help us through all the phases of the building, from design, through construction and work, to final execution.
I decided to document our process, and add more ideas, advices and tips as we progress.
The process of building our garden is long, and there is always more things to do, more ideas to implement, and more issues to consider.
I will include in this blog all the ideas we considered, and all the pros and cons when we made the decision to either include something or not.
There are many factors that influenced our decisions, that might be different for your garden, and this is the reason I am including the entire thought process.
Here are my starting points:
- Area – we live in Northern California, in the bay area
- Landscape – we live on a hill
- Soil – the soil in our area is extremely hard to dig and manipulate
- Temperature – the temperature range is good – summer is sunny but not too hot, winter is not too cold, it doesn’t snow here, but it’s not super rainy as well in the last few years
- Humidity – Humidity ranges between 40-60%
- Sun – we have 160-260 sunny days on average
